A remarkable value not just for Piedmont but the entirety of Italy, the Bricco Mollea has impressed us more than any other Italian wine this year and is a beautiful display of classic Barolo-like quality with Langhe approachability. It's a must-try bottle and also one of our highest recommended of the year. These are the last bottles of this that we have, and it is not one to miss. See our original offer below.
Massimo Martinelli long-time wine-maker at Renato Ratti, former member Barolo Consorzio, and father of one of the rising stars of Barolo, Trediberri. This is a stunning example of the Nebiolo grape and has us very excited about how good the 2019 vintage could be for Piedmonte. Massimo came out of retirement to form this estate with his wife Angioletta De Giorgis. They have accumulated some vines, now offer this Langhe, and will offer a Barolo soon. This wine has impressive depth and power for Langhe Nebbiolo with aromas of red rose, currants, pomegranate, orange zest, and minerals. The red fruits dominate the palate, but the finesse and focus remind me more of a Barolo than a mere Langhe Nebbiolo. A long whiplash of a finish, All I could say was wow, this is one of the Best under $25 Italian wines I have tasted in years. The 2019 Mollea wine should hit its stride in another 3 to 6 months and drink easily for 3 to years after this. Great juice, especially for the money!
