Charles Van Canneyt is the winemaker and heir to Hudelot Noellat and has distinguished himself as an incredible force as one of the younger generations of winemakers in Burgundy. He's had his label for a few years, and we have sold a few of his wines periodically, which have been excellent. While at Hudelot Noellat, Charles works for his family, but with this label, he started in 2012, it is purely his creation where he works to express his winemaking abilities. To do this, Charles has made agreements to buy grapes from trusted sources, allowing him to create many different wines without investing millions into buying vines. His range of wines is mostly Grand Crus and Premier Crus, choosing to work with some of the best vineyards when possible. In 2019 he bought grapes from Nuit St. Georges' top vineyard, Les St. Georges, and while we don't know the exact source (sometimes they like to keep it a secret), we know the vine age is 45 years old and from a reputable source. This is the first time he has made a Les St Georges, but he and his family have been making wines from the appellation for a long time, most notably the premier cru Les Murgers. Considering the average pricing of 2019 Les St. Georges and the cost of the Hudelot wines in general, this is a great buy and knowing Charles, this is probably on par or better than his family's Les Murgers and available at a friendlier price point. The production here was limited, and at the moment, we have some of the only bottles for sale globally. If you enjoy the wines from Hudelot Noellat, then this is worth checking out.
