2019 Christophe Billon Côte-Rôtie La Brocarde Pre-arrival

$64.99
2019 Christophe Billon Côte-Rôtie La Brocarde Pre-arrival
One of the wines of the vintage for the 2019 Rhone vintage. The La Brocarde from Billon is outstanding and the best example of this wine ever made. We got a small reload of this one at special pricing after selling out a few months back.

A family estate founded in 1991, Christophe Billon may be a familiar address, but his family has been in Cote-Rotie for generations. Christophe worked at Guigal before fully dedicating himself to the family Domaine in 1991, making three cuvees from his 25 hectares of family vines. Many of his parcels were planted by his grandfather, with his oldest dating back to the early 40s. Today, we are featuring the Brocarde, Christophe's best wine in the 2019 vintage. Coming from 45-year-old vines from northwest of the village of Ampuis, La Brocarde sits terraced mid-slope on the border of Cote Brune. Steeply graded with vines facing east, the plot’s soils are rich in schist, with some mica, plus veins of iron oxide, giving the wines a unique mineral profile and excellent complexity. Fermentation occurs with native yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks aging for 26 months in partially new French oak barrels. The wines from Christophe Billon are rather rare, and right now, we have the only bottles in the USA of this fantastic Cuvee.

Jeb Dunnuck 95-97 points! "For lovers of powerful, massive Côte Rôtie, the 2019 Côte Rôtie La Brocarde from Billon is going to punch that ticket. Decadent black fruits, scorched earth, roasted meats, and spicy nuances all define this beauty, and it's full-bodied, with a decadent, layered texture, one heck of a great mid-palate, and the density, structure, and balance to benefit from 7-8 years of bottle age and evolve for 20-30 years."

Decanter (Matt Walls) 94 pts!  High-toned, very fresh and floral wine with copious oak spice on the nose. Full-bodied, quite weighty on the mid-palate with plentiful sweet tannin. A stylish, slightly sweet, highly spiced style that is very tannic, but the tannins are ripe. This is something of a monster for now, but should develop into something special in time. Score may prove to be conservative. Steep slopes planted in 1986, lieu-dit La Brocade. All destemmed, aged for 26 months in 100% new oak barriques. 2,200 bottles made. (Drink between 2025 - 2034)
