2019 Digioia-Royer Bourgogne [Pre-Arrival]

$19.99
2019 Digioia-Royer Bourgogne [Pre-Arrival]
We bought as much of the 2019s from Digioia-Royer as we could, as it will be a fantastic vintage for him and his tiny Domaine. To kick it off, we have his Bourgogne Rouge. Some might remember from our offer of 2018 that this comes from some old parcels spread throughout the Cote de Nuits. Specifically planted in '75, '78, and '82 located in Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, and Gilly-les-Citeaux, which is right next to Chambolle. Digioia works the vineyards lute raisonee with no herbicides or insecticides and may transition to bio one day. Vinified separately, the Bourgogne Rouge sees a wild yeast fermentation with aging in 50% older oak and 50% stainless steel for 12 months before bottling. While this isn't entirely from vines in Chambolle, it is an impressive bottle showing a very elegant side to Bourgogne rouge. 2019 should be classic, concentrated, and balanced, playing right into the Digioia style, and we think it could be his best vintage ever. The Bourgogne Rouge from Digioia is one of the best buys in the category, competing with bottles twice the price not only that but they are not easy to source in the USA. If you only buy one 2019 Bourgogne Rouge, this should be the one.
