2019 Domaine Hervé Sigaut Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Les Millandes

$89.99
2019 Domaine Hervé Sigaut Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Les Millandes
Herve Sigaut has been on the rise, and this Domaine is now firmly in the discussion for the best buys in the Cote de Nuits. They have a really elegant, subtle style that reminds us of both Ghislaine Barthod and Francois Bertheau - a good mid-point between the two with the terroir-driven precision of the former and the delicate touch of the latter. While Chambolle is the mainstay of this address, they make two very good Morey St. Denis wines, with Les Millandes being their best example and one of their top wines of the vintage. Sourced from 40-year-old organic vines just in the middle of the appellation, just below Les Chaibots and Les Fremieres, and in line with some other great crus. A wine of density and harmony, this is very Morey but with an elegant touch from winemaker Anne Sigaut. This is the most serious example of the Millandes that Anne has made, and it is starting to show well now but will continue to pay dividends with ample cellar time. At pricing less than their Chambolle Crus and with quality nearing that of the Grand Crus this is an outstanding buy for the vintage and appellation at this low pricing, and we have a limited amount arriving next week.

Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy) 94 points! "Deep and even purple with a sturdiness of dark red fruit on the nose. There is significant concentration here with good acidity, the oak showing more as vanilla than toast with excellent grip to finish. A very good example, and interestingly different in style from the fine, lighter Charrières."

Burghound 92 points! "Here the nose is relatively firmly reduced so be sure to give it some air if you're tempted to try a bottle young in the interest of science. There is excellent size, weight and mid-palate density to the rich but nicely detailed, muscular and powerful flavors that also culminate in a youthfully austere, lingering and structured finale. Patience definitely recommended."
