We have a superb buy from one of Burgundy's classic addresses. This Domaine saw its first production in 1835 and officially became Domaine Matrot after 1914 when Joseph Matrot and his wife Marguerite Amoignon moved to her Meursault-based estate. The Domaine became famous in the 70s when the famed Theirry Matrot came on board and was joined by his wife, Pascale. While they are still involved at the Domaine, the Matrot Daughters, Adèle and Elsa, have stepped up, continuing the legacy of this family estate. Matrot has always been a Domaine of purity and terroir expression, limiting yields and harvesting only healthy ripe grapes with organic growing practiced since the 70s. The wines go through a slow fermentation and see aging 228-liter barrels between 1 and 5 years old to amplify the wines without marking them with oak. Charmes is one of the most textbook Meursault Crus. This bottle is sourced from the Charmes Dessus and Charmes Dessous plots, with Dessus attributing to elegance and minerality while Dessous gives the classic Meursault-like power and generosity. The 2019 Charmes is an incredible buy from Matrot at this pricing, scoring as high as their Perrières which goes for $150. This is one of the buys of the vintage for White Burgundy and is not a bottle to miss. A beautiful note below, this is a must for the White Burgundy lover.
