2019 Domaine Raymond Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Impériale

$59.99
2019 Domaine Raymond Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Impériale
An outstanding effort for 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape, the Cuvee Imperiale comes from some of the oldest vines in the region and is one of our favorite cuvees when it comes to price quality. 2019 is a standout year for this part of the Usselgio family as one of the best bottlings of Cuvee Imperiale of all time. We were able to get a small reload here at US low pricing, and in our opinion, it's one of the top buys in the Southern Rhone.

Original offer:

Raymond Usseglio made his first wine in 1949 after immigrating from Italy to Chateauneuf du Pape in the early 30s but wouldn't create his Domaine until 1963 after acquiring a few more vineyards. The Domaine is now run by his son Stephane, who has continued the legacy of the Domaine through some brilliant wines since 1999 at the young age of 22. The Domaine is certified organic and produces an array of traditionally inspired wines with a few unique selections that we have offered in the past. The Cuvee Imperiale is the jewel of the Domaine sourced from the Domaine's oldest Grenache vines, most of which are 120 years old planted between 1901-1902. The vines have extremely low yields that produce concentrated and powerful little berries. A superb wine, 2019 proves that this address is a force and one to keep an eye on. 2019 is the best example of this wine ever produced and, as Jeb Dunnuck says below, a step up over the 2018 vintage. The Cuvee Imperiale is a bottle not to miss from Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée in 2019.

Jeb Dunnuck 96-98 points! "Coming all from very old vine Grenache and brought up in tank, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Imperiale offers a smoking bouquet of vivid black raspberry and cassis intermixed with lots of flowery incense, licorice, and spring flowers. Reminding me of a Grand Cru Red Burgundy on the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, has a vibrant, tight, focused texture, polished tannins, and beautifully integrated acidity. It’s one classy Châteauneuf du Pape that will evolve for two decades.
Readers looking for the next superstar estate in Châteauneuf du Pape and Côtes du Rhône need to get on Raymond Usseglio’s bandwagon ASAP as the quality here is equal to anything out there today. I still remember writing in 2016 how the quality was on the uptick, and there’s no better example than these latest 2018s and 2019s. The 2018s show the prettier, more elegant style of the vintage, yet bring ample depth and concentration. The 2019s are a step up and offer another level of depth and concentration. Both vintages show incredible purity of fruit and balance. In addition to his Châteauneuf du Pape, don’t miss the Côtes du Rhônes and Vin de France releases!"
