We have always enjoyed the wines from Saumaize-Michelin, one of our favorite producers in the Maconnais. Founded in 1978 with a mere 3.5 hectares, they make great wines that can be richer in profile but are typically very balanced and downright delicious. La Marechaude is a newer Cuvee from the Domaine and a wine we have never offered before. This vineyard was acquired in 2013, and while the vines are on the younger side here, the family sees this premier cru terroir as having incredible potential with the vines planted on a steep limestone slope. This site is a challenge to work, and everything must be done by hand and is the most exhausting site that Saumaize-Michelin has in their possession, but the work is worth it to them. A wine that shows a beautiful floral perfume with yellow fruits and citrus notes while being powerful yet charming on the palate. It also has excellent structure with lovely minerality and freshness.
We have low pricing here today on this which is a perfect choice for the white Burgundy fans out there.
Vinous (Neal Martin) 93 pts! "The 2019 Pouilly-Fuissé La Maréchaude has a discrete bouquet, timid at first and then opens with aeration. Scents of grass clippings and struck flint shine as hints of orange zest come forward in the background. The palate is beautifully defined with a fine bead of acidity, great tension and poised with real intensity on the finish. I adore the energy in this nascent Pouilly-Fuissé and though difficult to resist in its youth, this should age with style. Superb. (Drink between 2022 - 2038)"
