2019 Ferdinando Principiano Barolo del Commune di Serralunga d'Alba

$49.99
2019 Ferdinando Principiano Barolo del Commune di Serralunga d'Alba
Part of the newer class of producers that has started focusing on old-school techniques, Ferdinando learned the ropes working for Giacomo Conterno before taking over his family estate. Over the years, the estate has honed in on classical winemaking methods, working with large Slovenian casks, slow macerations, ambient yeast fermentation, and organic viticulture. The Principiano crown jewel is a tiny slice of the Ravera cru, less than half a hectare, with 90-year-old vines planted to an old sought-after Michet clone. It is a very steep parcel of vines lending to a powerful yet wonderfully balanced expression. While this is not the Ravera, the Serralunga contains a bit of the Ravera fruit and the lesser-known and idiosyncratic Boscareto cru that he usually makes with whole cluster vilification like GB Burlotto's Monvigliero. It is a rare find for Barolo but also a top value for the category, and 2019 should be an exceptional example. These are currently the only bottles available of the 2019 and at no upcharge over previous vintages. We are also offering a 10% discount today for anyone that purchased three bottles or more, making it one of the best values for Barolo this vintage.
