One of the underrated addresses of the Cote de Beaune Fernand & Laurent Pillot had another successful vintage in 2019. Over the past few years, this estate has seen an upheaval in quality partly due to Laurent's son Adrien who has decisively taken a more significant role at the Domaine. In his review of Pillot, William Kelley wrote that Adrien has fine-tuned the estate using less new oak, longer elevage, and Diam corks for the white wines. This is a natural progression for this Domaine and is certainly welcome, especially when the results have been excellent. The 2019s here are exceptional, more profound, and more concentrated than the '18s while still be balanced and having a clear sense of place. Vergers is always a favorite vineyard in Chassagne, and when comparing to a producer like Jean-Marc Pillot, this is a fantastic buy for the money. These are the only bottles available in the USA right now, so don't miss out on this great opportunity.
Wine Advocate (William Kelley) 92+ points! "The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers has turned out especially well, mingling aromas of pear, white flowers, citrus pith and blanched almonds in an inviting bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, bright and chiseled, with good cut and concentration, it's a well-balanced, precise wine that will age with grace."
