Fritz Haag is a traditional winery mentioned in local documents as early as 1605. The Brauneberger Juffer vineyard, located in the center of the Mosel, is one of the area's prestigious sites. Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr is a select parcel situated in the Brauneberger Juffer vineyard. This parcel is warmer, helping the grapes mature and develop deep and complex flavors with a touch of exoticism and considered to be an extraordinary plot of land. Fritz Haag's wines are pure with true elegance and intense minerality, especially in the 2019 vintage. The acidity is a bit higher than the previous year, the yields were lower, and the Spatlese, as Stephan mentions below, is a textbook example. Winemaker Oliver Haag also considers this to be an exceptional vintage, walking a tight rope between power and finesse as one of the best efforts Spatlese's he has ever produced from this vineyard.
Wine Advocate 95-96 pts! "The 2019 Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese opens with a bright and coolish, very delicate and filigreed bouquet of herbal/floral aromas intertwined with bright, young spring fruit and aromas of broken slate. On the palate, this is a round, charming, highly finessed and very elegant Spätlese with the lovely fruit and juiciness of the JSU and its unrivaled finesse. The weightless finish is salty-piquant, precise and highly stimulating. This 2019 is a picture-book Spätlese from the Juffer Sonnenuhr. Tasted as a sample in April 2020."
