Always an excellent buy for Chateauneuf du Pape, Le Vieux Donjon did fantastic with the 2019 vintage. A classic vintage for this Cuvee, as Jeb Dunnuck touches on below, showing a very compelling display of power and elegance with no loss of freshness or balance. Le Vieux Donjon is always one of the best buys in CDP, and this vintage is at the top of the list. While some producers might have struggled to find balance in their wines in 2019, Donjon's CDP gorgeous. A highly recommended vintage for this wine, we have a limited amount in stock at this excellent pricing.
Decanter 98 points! "Very full-bodied with a lovely sweetness to the fruit, fine tannins and great freshness. Really shot through with juicy, sweet, chocolatey tannins and great concentration. Very well balanced however, not heavy or aggressive with a stony minerality on the finish. The most impressive barrel sample of Vieux Donjon I've ever tasted - this is profound stuff. This traditional estate owns 18ha of Châteauneuf, with considerable plantings of old-vine Grenache. Fermented in concrete vats, then aged in concrete and old foudres."
Jeb Dunnuck 94-96+ points! "A beautifully textured, medium to full-bodied, classic effort from this team, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape boasts a deeper ruby/purple color, traditional notes of ground pepper, Provençal garrigue, smoked meat, and red and black fruits, a terrific mid-palate, ripe, silky tannins, and a great, great finish. This is an outstanding vintage for this cuvée that’s going to benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for 20 years or more."
