One of the best buys of the vintage for German Riesling, this is a brand new release from Muller-Catoir, one of our favorite producers in Pfalz, located between the Rhine river and the Haardt mountains. Muller-Catoir makes an exceptional range of wines, and our top picks have always been their drier creations like the trockens or GG's. This wine, in particular the Bürgergarten Im Breumel, is Muller-Catoir's flagship dry wine. Sourcing from an organically grown prime section of the Burgergarten vineyard called "Im Breumel" where the grapes from this portion of the vineyard are noteworthy enough to bottle separately. The vines are around 30 years old and produce fantastically concentrated fruit with incredible minerality from the mottled yellow sandstone soils referred to as "Haardt Sandstone." It is a wine that bends the boundaries of power and elegance with racy acids, ripe fruit, and profound minerality, all delicately balanced with excellent precision. 2020 is proving to be a fantastic vintage for the dry wines from Germany, and at this low pricing, it's certainly one to check out. The Im Breumel is an outstanding age-worthy Riesling that is a must for those that enjoy precise, mineral-driven white wines and has the ripeness of fruit to be enjoyed young if desired.
James Suckling 98 points! "Although the intensity of this very youthful dry riesling’s bouquet knocks you back in your seat, the ripe white-peach, tangerine and passion-fruit aromas are accompanied by a slew of delicate, floral notes. Tightly focused with diamond brightness on the concentrated yet sleek palate, this ends in a finish of breathtaking purity. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold."
