$49.99
2019 Rene Rostaing Côte-Rôtie Cuvée Classique Ampodium
We have a few more cases of this fantastic effort from Rostaing. The 2019 Ampodium is one of the best examples of all time and a superb value buys for Cote-Rotie. We have an excellent price on this wine, and this time around, there are some more nice notes from the usual crew below.

A follow up to our offer of the crus, this time, we have the flagship classic Cuvee known as Ampodium. As previously mentioned, Rene Roistaing is One of the top winemakers in Cote-Rotie, producing classic wines as one of the region's greats. He inherited vines in some of the best locations in the Cote-Rotie from his great winemaking family members, including his beloved Cote Blonde, Cote Brune, and La Landonne holdings which account for some of the best wines annually in Cote-Rotie. Ampodium, however, doesn't come from a single source but from vines throughout the appellation, capturing the vintage in Cote-Rotie as a whole. It is a terrific expression of Cote-Rotie, rivaling some of the best examples. The Ampodium is incredibly classic this vintage and is a textbook Cote-Rotie with excellent complexity of fruit, herbs, flowers, earth, and minerals. 2019 has the potential to be one of the best iterations of Ampodium yet and is a fantastic buy for Cote-Rotie this vintage. We currently have low pricing on this tremendous effort, and it is one to grab for fans of Cote-Rotie.

Wine Advocate (Joe Czerwinski) 93 points! "An opulent, rich vintage of this cuvée, the 2019 Cote Rotie Ampodium still offers up nicely detailed, intricate floral notes layered atop raspberries and mocha. Medium to full-bodied, it's velvety and lush, with plenty of length on the finish. It should drink well for more than a decade."

Jeb Dunnuck 93 pts! "Moving to the 2019s from bottle, the 2019 Côte Rôtie Ampodium offers lots of peppery herbs, flowers, bacon fat, and sweet black raspberry fruit in a medium to full-bodied, meaty, straight-up classic Côte Rôtie style. It’s well worth seeking out as a multi-bottle purchase, as it will offer loads of pleasure over the coming 15 years. (Drink between 2022 - 2037)"

Vinous (Josh Raynolds) 92-94 points! "Primary black/blue fruit, violet, allspice and olive qualities on the highly perfumed nose, where a smoky mineral nuance adds energetic lift. Sweet, deep-pitched blueberry, cherry and fruitcake flavors spread out steadily in the mouth, picking up spiciness and a touch of licorice on the back half. Finishes with sharp clarity and silky tannins that provide closing shape and grip."

John Gilman 92 pts! "The Ampodium bottling of Côte-Rôtie from the Rostaing family always strikes me as one of the great values to be found in the region, as its quality is always exemplary and it sells at a significant discount from the single vineyard bottlings from the domaine. The 2019 Ampodium is a fine young bottle of Côte-Rôtie in the making, offering up a vibrant, ripe and red fruity bouquet of raspberries, smoked meats, pepper, stony soil tones, lovely spice tones and a nice framing of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and tangy, with a fine core of fruit, good mineral drive and grip, firm, chewy tannins and a long, complex and nicely balanced finish. This is a fairly powerful vintage for this bottling, coming in at 14.5 percent octane in the drought year of 2019 and it will need plenty of time in the cellar before it softens up and is ready to drink. But, once it blossoms, it will be a fine bottle and have a long life ahead of it. I should mention that the oak here is a bit more pronounced at this point in its evolution than is customary for this wine, but this is probably a reflection of the slightly higher alcohol level, coupled to the short crop of this vintage. There is certainly plenty of stuffing in the wine to absorb its oak nicely with extended cellaring. (Drink between 2033 - 2085)"

Decanter 92 points! "A full-bodied vintage for Ampodium, more generous and juicy than normal. Gently fibrous tannins as is the style, the fruit is very ripe, deep damson and plum with liquorice. Not long, with gently raised alcohol. Four weeks in tank, 18 months in oak, limited new oak, natural yeasts, and as many stems as possible. The whole bunch give a potpourri element to the nose."
