We have a great one here today from the new project of Beaux Freres owner Michael Etzel. In 2010, he bought a 60-hectare Douglas Fir Tree Farm adjacent lot next to his upper Terrance vineyard and is now producing world-class Pinot Noir from that site. A forest of Douglas fir borders the property on three sides. The trees protect the gentle southern slope of the vineyard from wind and weather and preserve the unique terroir. The virgin marine sediment soils have only been farmed with organic and biodynamic principles—helping to conserve the native ground cover and promote the healthy integration of all living organisms.
The 2019 Sequitur Pinot Noir is a full-throttle bottle with incredible depth, layers of flavors, and a palate-staining finish that lingers for a minute. The balance here is impeccable, and the production is so tiny that only about 700 cases are made. This would be a great holiday gift for the Pinot Noir lover since it is a rare, brilliant bottle of Pinot Noir!
Vinous (Josh Raynolds) 96 points! "Saturated magenta. Powerful red and blue fruit, floral and exotic spice scents show excellent clarity and mineral lift. Sappy, alluringly sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering juicy boysenberry, Chambord, candied violet and star anise flavors that deftly blend depth and vivacity. Shows bright clarity and repeating florality on the strikingly persistent finish, which is framed by smooth, polished tannins."
Wine Advocate (Erin Brooks) 96 pts! "The 2019 Pinot Noir Woodstock has a medium ruby color and features intense red fruit—cherry, pomegranate and rhubarb—underpinned by tones of potpourri, Angostura bitters and forest floor. The medium-bodied palate has a harmonious, seamless mouthfeel, impressively concentrated, spicy fruit and a very long finish replete with a flourish of spicy accents."
JebDunnuck.com (Audrey Frick) 96 points! "Bottled to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, the 2019 Pinot Noir Woodstock is perfumed with a hint of purple flowers, violet, black raspberry, and cinnamon. The palate is fresh and crunchy with savory pine, red cherry, and turned earth. It is structured and refreshing at the same time it feels luxurious, with dark fruit and layered complexity. Drink 2024-2036.<!--more-->Michael Etzel of Beaux Freres established this winery after the partnership he established with Maison & Domaines Henriot. This is his solo project, if you will, where he has full control. The property is a 12-acre vineyard site adjacent to the winery and is biodynamically farmed."
