2019 Sylvie Esmonin Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques

$229.99
2019 Sylvie Esmonin Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques

For a long time, Sylvie Esmonin has been a great source for Clos St. Jacques and was an insider Burgundy buy for years. While the cat has been out of the bag for a while, it's still an excellent stop for this top Premier Cru. We skipped the '17 and '18 vintages but couldn't pass up this beauty in 2019, which is one of their top efforts for the CSJ of all time. This is a special vineyard for the Esmonin's owning 1.6 hectares of this incredible premier cru, which is farmed organically with vines ranging from 45 to 55 years old and backs right up to their house. Clos St. Jacques is literally the Esmonin's back yard, and their close relationship to the vineyards is apparent. We have a little bit of the stunning 2019 available at a great price, so don't miss it!

Vinous (Neil Martin) 92-94 points! "The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru contains 70% whole bunch and is matured in new oak. It finished its malolactic in August. The very dense, backward nose features black cherries and cassis fruit, then touches of dried pressed violets and incense with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins on the entry, and quite fresh, leading to a grainy-textured finish. Blue fruit emerges only with air, and there is palpable mineralité on the aftertaste. This is typical of Esmonin’s more fruit-driven style of Clos Saint-Jacques, and it will need several years’ bottle age."
