We are down to the last bottles of this top Italian value from Acconero. One of the top spots for overachieving wines from Piedmont, Accornero has been making some very impressive, and the Viari is almost too good to be true and the best buy for Piedmont right now.
Another incredible offer from Accornero, this is a wine we have never offered before, but after the success of our previous offer of the Gulin, we thought this would be another great wine to offer. This is a newer wine from Accornero and saw its first vintage in 2019, which was a breakout success, and with 2020 being only the second vintage for this wine, it is already a fantastic addition to the lineup. The Accornero wines are some of the few that fetch high scores at value pricing, largely thanks to Giulio Accornero, who founded the estate in 1957 in the Vignale Monferrato Commune of Piedmont, located about an hour northeast of Barolo above the City of Asti. His two sons, Ermanno and Massimo, run the estate today with their father's unyielding desire for quality, respecting the past tradition of the land and making high-quality, affordable wines. The Viari is made with the grape varietal Ruche, which almost disappeared until it was revitalized by a few producers and gained DOCG Status in 2011. Native to Piedmonte, some claim it originated from Burgundy and was brought to the area; while this is uncertain, there are Pinot Noir-like aspects to the grape, which is light in color, delicate, aromatic, and high in acidity, much like Nebbiolo. Floral with a lovely richness and elegance, it is a joy to drink and so impressive for under $20. We have the only bottles of this new release in the USA, and it's a value not to miss from Accornero.
Antonio Galloni 93 points! "The 2020 Ruchè Viarì di Castagnole Monferrato is absolutely gorgeous. Translucent and perfumed, with striking nuance, the 2020 is a total delight. Rose petal, sage, mint, lavender, spice and amaro herbs are all beautifully lifted. This mid-weight, translucent Ruchè is a total winner. (Drink between 2021-2028)"
