We have a few cases in stock of Baudry's Grezeaux, a brilliant showing of Cabernet Franc from Chinon in the Loire. One of the few remaining old-world values from France, this is exceptional and is a vintage not to miss for this cuvee.
For years, Baudry has been a go-to address for Cab Franc from the Loire. Bernard Baudry's work with some of the best organic vineyards in the area produces exceptional, reasonably priced wines that are some of the favorites of Chinon. With diverse holdings, each Cuvee comes from different soil structures and exposures, showing a unique expression. All of the Domaine vineyards are harvested by hand and vinified separately, using natural yeasts for fermentation and a non-interventionalist approach to winemaking, giving these wines an innate purity while showing off the terroir. Hands down, these are some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc, and 2020 is another fantastic vintage for Baudry.
We have one of the favorites here today, Grezeaux, which comes from a plot planted on Alluvian soil not far from the Domaine itself and is the oldest plot of vines that Baudry has at over 70 years old. Grezeaux is concentrated and powerful at times but has lovely elegance, showing incredible complexity and intensity for a wine at such a small asking price. The Grezeaux is an excellent buy from Baudry and superb wine for the money as truly one of the top old-world values. We have a limited amount in stock at this low pricing.
Vinous (Rebecca Gibb MW) 91 points! "Off gravel soils at the bottom of the coteaux, the 2020 Les Grézeaux is a fine, fruity wine but it's much more than that. It's a delicate style that packs concentration within its light, silky bodied core. The tannins are fine and like licking a stone. It's good enough to eat. Blackcurrants and black raspberries linger on the medium length finish."
Decanter (Tasting Panel) 90 points! "Dense core of black fruits. Ripe opulent texture, broad and complex fruit on the palate, well worked tannins. Lovely wine should age well."
