2020 Domaine Chavy-Chouet Meursault Les Casses-Têtes Eta end of May 2022

$69.99
2020 Domaine Chavy-Chouet Meursault Les Casses-Têtes Eta end of May 2022
One of the top buys for White Burgundy in the excellent 2020 vintage Les Casses Tetes is a village wine that reaches premier cru quality. With pricing consistently on the rise, this is one of those sub-100-dollar bottles that are really worth grabbing this vintage. These are our last bottles available of Les Casses Tetes, which will arrive in late May of this year.

Chavy-Chouet is the joining of two families, Chavy from Puligny-Montrachet and Ropiteau from Meursault. The Domaine is now owned by Romaric Chavy, who works the vineyards his grandfather used to sell the fruit to Bouchard. Under the label that some might remember, his father Hubert, Hubert Chavy, took the first steps to bottling their production. The Domaine has adopted Lutte Raisonee in the vineyards with minimal new oak, no lees stirring, and minimal filtration. This is a classic under-the-radar producer doing great work, which is hard to find these days in an area that has left no stone (producer) unturned.
Les Casses-Tetes is a great village wine sourced from vines offer 45 years old. It gets its name from the extremely hard soil that Romaric Chavy's ancestors struggled to plant on, basically limestone bedrock. Powerful and lively, though it is just a village wine, it has all of the components of a classic Meursault with finesse, structure, elegance, and excellent soil signature. It is not a common Cuvee for Meursault, but it's one of the best secrets of the Chavy Domaine and, in 2020, is a complete knockout and the most exciting example of this wine ever from the Domaine. This is an excellent buy for white Burgundy this vintage, and we have low pricing on some of the only bottles available in the US right now. A nice note below attesting to the wine's profound minerality; this is highly recommended.

Vinous (Neal Martin) 93 pts! "The 2020 Meursault Les Casses-Têtes has a more mineral-driven bouquet compared to the Narvaux, slightly more delineation perhaps. The palate is very well balanced with a saline entry, quite citric with a sharp tensile finish that delivers the sapidity to urge you back for another sip. Excellent. (Drink between 2023 - 2038)"
