One of the great domaines of the Loire founded in 1928, this biodynamic producer has done it again with another fantastic vintage. 2020 is slightly opposite of the '19 vintage where the Sec wines reigned supreme, this year, wines that saw some residual sugar were in favor, with only one Sec wine made in 2020 coming from the Le Mont vineyard. Though they only made one dry wine, it is exceptional and one of the top Sec wines from Le Mont ever. Le Mont is an incredibly mineral-driven vineyard and one of the top sources for dry Chenin Blanc in Vouvray. A vital part of the Domaine since 1957, the stony green clay soils give a unique expression to the wine with outstanding freshness and acidity. Huet refers to this vineyard as eternal due to the wine's ability to age. This is a powerful yet elegant vintage for this Cuvee with two big scores below, possibly conservative, considering they were based on tank samples. We have a limited amount of these in stock at great pricing, so get one before they are gone!
Vinous (Rebbecca Gibb MW) 96-97 points! "The pure and intriguing nose of the 2020 Le Mont Sec is fine and focused, offering a flinty, smoky note as well as white flowers, pineapple and just-ripe pear. A taut and precise style that delivers plenty of concentration yet conveys a sense of delicacy in the mouth. It has a fine, structured, lengthy finish, an element of tension holding the palate with confident grip. Unfinished sample."
Wine Advocate (Stephan Reinhardt) 95 points! "The only dry wine from the vintage is the 2020 Vouvray Le Mont Sec, whose tank sample shows a classy, pure, precise and chalky/lemony bouquet with bright and perfectly healthy fruit and some herbal as well as yeasty aromas. On the palate, this is a dense, fabulously juicy, fruity and elegant Chenin whose immediate attraction and pure finesse initially reminds me of Riesling, whereas the texture is too rich and the salty and finely tannic finish too intense and powerful for Riesling. With more aeration, the Le Mont gets more and more intense and complex but also, tannic-wise, more wild. The 2020 has great tension, energy and grip and is highly promising. Tasted a few days before bottling in April 2021."
