The 2020s from Jean-Michel Gaunoux are great, and this time we were able to get more of the Gouttes d'Or at this friendly pricing. The Gouttes d'Or is the smallest vineyard site that Jean Michel works with, at .3 hectares, making it the most limited of his premier crus. While small in size, this is a strong site for Jean Michel, consistently one of his best wines, with 2020 being one of the greatest examples of this site ever. The vineyard is at the same high elevation as Perrieres and Genevrieres, but the soil here is different and features heavy clay with a limestone base. Vines here were planted in 1950 and have been farmed sustainably for many years, with practices like green harvesting used to limit yields. With indigenous yeast fermentation and limited new oak, these classic wines show a beautiful combination of fruit and minerality. This is a serious rendition from Jean Michel and an excellent buy for Meursault this vintage. We have some of the only bottles available of this Rare wine in the USA, and it's one of the last great buys from the 2020 vintage.
Vinous (Neal Martin) 92-94 pts! "The 2020 Meursault Goutte d’Or 1er Cru comes from a single parcel of 40-50 year old vines, aged in around 40% new oak. There was just a touch of reduction on the nose when I tasted this cuvée that made it difficult to read. But the palate is promising with a light creaminess on the entry, fine acidity, good weight with a slightly honeyed Meursault-Charmes-like finish. Give this 3-5 years in bottle and you'll have a stonkingly good Meursault in your mitts. (Drink between 2025 - 2045)
