2020 Domaine Jean Pascal et Fils Puligny-Montrachet Les Enseignères

$59.99
2020 Domaine Jean Pascal et Fils Puligny-Montrachet Les Enseignères
We just enjoyed another bottle of the Enseigneres this past weekend, and we can't help but be impressed again by this wine. Though it is just a village wine, it carries premier cru weight and complexity as one of the best village-level vineyards in Puligny. This wine possesses incredible aromatics, a great sense of place, and a long powerful mineral-tinged finish. A premier cru quality wine priced at what most producers Bourgogne Blancs are at right now. We have a few more cases of this one left after buying everything our supplier had, and if you like classic white Burgundy, this wine is for you.

The best rendition of this wine yet, we just tried the 2020 from Jean Pascal, and it was fantastic. A husband and wife duo Yann Morvan runs the Domaine, and his wife Alexandra is the head winemaker. Applying organic cultivation to their vineyards, they also limit yields, use native yeasts, and are one of the producers that pour lots of work into farming, believing great wine is made in the vineyard and not the cellar. The Puligny Enseignères vineyard is in a great location just below Batard and Bienvenue Batard Montrachet, with vines averaging 45 years old. The wine is so elegant, refined, and complex you would think it was a top-level premier cru.
This is absolutely beautiful with stunning aromatics of white flowers, stone fruits, minerals, soil tones, honeydew melon, and a savory component. The palate is precise and focused, with yellow fruits dominating, seeing a bit of salinity and lots of dry extracts that coat the palate and linger on for minutes. This is a monumental 2020 white Burgundy that drinks at the premier cru plus level, and we went skinny on our margin to make this less than 2019 ($10 less), which hasn't been easy this vintage. A genuinely great white Burgundy in the making at an incredible price!
