We have truly enjoyed the last few vintages under the Lafarge-Vial label; these are serious wines making their way among some of Beaujolais' top crus. It was started by Frederic and Chantal Lafarge (Domaine Michel Lafarge in Volnay) in 2014 with the idea of making great wines together using Biodynamics and whole clusters on some old parcels of Gammay. The couple brought their knowledge from Volnay and applied it to this new terroir which was almost an instant success. 2020 is another fantastic vintage for Beaujolais. Every year, the wines from Lafage-Vial get more dialed in, showing incredible purity of fruit and a beautiful balance between richness and acidity. It is a classic and very structured vintage, and while they will need some cellar time, they will be exceptional. We have fantastic pricing on the regular bottling of Fleurie, which is an incredible wine this vintage. Sourced from vines planted in 1950, 1969, and 1970, from the lieu-dits Bel Air and Sarcillon, this is one of the best Flueires this vintage and, at this number, is an exceptional buy from Lafarge. These are fantastic wines that fans of producers like Lapierre, Yvon-Metras, and Foillard will enjoy as they have similar thought processes for making outstanding Beaujolais.

"The regular bottling of 2020 Fleurie from the Lafarges has turned out beautifully and is quite red fruity for the vintage, offering up scents of cherries, sweet cranberries, stony soil tones, gamebird, a touch of orange peel and a topnote of white pepper. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, long and tangy, with a good core and soil undertow, bright acids and just a whisper of tannin adding structural conviction on the backend. Good juice."
Burghound 92 points! "This is aromatically similar to the Chiroubles but with just a touch more elegance. The cool and restrained nose mixes both red and dark fruit aromas with those of discreet spice and floral wisps. There is very good detail and energy to the more refined if slightly less concentrated flavors that possess a lovely texture on the lingering finale that firms up as it sits on the palate. Very good quality here."
