We have some of the 2020 Evocelles from Lucien Boillot, which is an excellent and one of his top Gevrey wines. Today the Lucien Boillot Domaine is run by Lucien's son Pierre Boillot who worked alongside his brother Louis Boillot before the two split the holdings, and Louis went on to make his own Domaine.
The Lucien Boillot Domaine encompasses many parts of Burgundy, including Volnay, Pommard, Nuits St. Georges, and Puligny-Montrachet. However, the mainstays of this address are the Gevrey-Chambertin wines which consist of old vine holdings that are all over 60 years old.
The wines here are classic, sticking to old-school methods with limited yields, no chemicals, limited new oak, and no fining or filtering. These are fantastic buys for 2020 Burgundy and should be one of the all-time top examples from Lucien Boillot.
Les Evocelles is an upper hillside vineyard planted in 1956 in the northeastern portion of Gevrey Chambertin, featuring stony clay and limestone soils, bordering the Gevrey 1er crus Champeaux and Les Goulots. It's an excellent location that can touch premier cru quality at times, and thanks to a warmer climate in Burgundy, the grapes here can get a bit more ripeness now, which is a good thing and makes them less austere while still retaining the same sense of place, minerality, and length. We have the only 2020s available in the USA at sharp pricing compared to previous vintages.
