2022 Domaine Marc Morey & Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru En Virondot

$109.99
2022 Domaine Marc Morey & Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru En Virondot

One of our and our client's favorite buys for Chassagne premier crus from the last decade, we were able to get a small reload of the '22 Virondot after previously selling out. Marc Morey is one of the pioneers of Chassagne-Montrachet and one of the top producers in the commune. These are very classic wines made by his granddaughter Sabrine Mollard, who, like her grandfather, is an outstanding winemaker. The key to this Domaine is vineyard expression, and one of the gems of the lineup is Virondot, from over 30-year-old vines producing a robust, mineral-driven wine. The Domaine owns over 90% of the vineyard and is currently the only producer to bottle a Virondot. Over the years, the Virondot has been a very consistent wine, always showing the classicism that this address is known for, and is a producer we trust to make excellent white Burgundy. We say this a lot, but 2022 is one of the best examples ever made here, taking a slight edge over the '19s and '20s. We have a limited amount of this incredible vintage arriving soon, and it's a fantastic buy for premier cru white Burgundy in 2022!

Vinous (Neil Martin) 93-95 points! "The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Virondot 1er Cru is habitually one of the Domaine's strongest cards, though this year, it is challenged by the brilliant Caillerets. Still, you cannot deny the nose has excellent mineralité and complexity, with touches of chai and chamomile complementing the yellow fruit. The palate is very well-balanced, with great power and precision. Wonderful acidity is interwoven into this Chassagne with great precision and persistence on the finish: elegance and class. (Drink between 2025-2045)

Burghhound 92 points! " Here too there is enough post-bottling reduction to render an evaluation of the nose difficult. By contrast, there is solid mid-palate concentration and a gorgeous texture to the overtly stony medium-bodied flavors that terminate in a youthfully austere chiseled and bone-dry finale. This is also tightly wound and a wine that is clearly going to need at least some patience and I would advise a minimum of 5 years first."
