MJ Tricot is a brand new producer that we are offering, and we got a tiny amount of Poruzots as a follow-up to our offer of Perrieres. We were turned on to these wines by a friend in France who recommended them after trying the range. We were intrigued, and when we learned that Bouchard was making the wines here, we had to give it a go.
While this is technically a new Domaine started by Vincent Tricot in 2018, the family has been in Meursault as early as 1848. Vincent's father was a Tricot, and his mother was a Ropiteau which many may know as an estate picked up by Bouchard a while back, gaining them access to a few Meursault wines.
Vincent uniquely created this project, and since his family owns many great vineyards and has a history with Bouchard, he has decided to keep that agreement and let Bouchard do the vineyard management, harvest, fermentation, and bottling, while Vincent himself sells the wines. However, only the best of the estate is bottled under the Tricot name, which means that Poruzots, like the Perrires, should be of a higher quality than Bouchards, which comes from similar sourcing.
Poruzots is another fantastic wine from MJ Tricot and one of the favorite sites of Meursault. Sourced from a small younger parcel located close to the border of Les Gouttes d'Or and Les Boucheres, two other excellent premier crus. This is an elegant and complex example of Poruzots amplified by the excellence of the vintage. While the Perriers is a mineral masterpiece, this is more of an exercise in elegance, complexity, and depth, but not without a mineral spine. Slightly richer and with notes of white fruits and dried white flowers, this is classic overall and a fantastic example of this vineyard this vintage. Like the other Crus, this only sees 15% new oak and is aged in the Bouchard Cellars for 10 to 12 months until release. These are the only bottles of the 2020 Poruzots available in the world right now and is another spot on Meursault's example from this insider Domaine doubling as one of the best buys for Poruzots this vintage.
