2020 Domaine Pernot-Bélicard Bourgogne Blanc

$29.99
2020 Domaine Pernot-Bélicard Bourgogne Blanc
Another impressive wine from Pernot-Belicard, the wines here are made by Phillippe Pernot, grandson of the famous Puligny-Montrachet winemaker, Paul Pernot. Phillippe's wines are not far off from his Grand Fathers and are impressive White Burgundy's at a slightly lower price. He learned to make wines from his grandfather, helping run the estate through the 2000s, and married one of the Belicards in 2009, acquiring 6 hectares of vineyards that the Belicards had sold off with buying contracts. Phillippe canceled the contracts to make his own Domaine wines and has been doing great work with his 6 hectares, using sustainable and organic practices for healthy fruit, making very classic wines that expose the minerality and structure of the Puligny terroir. These are excellent examples of Puligny that do the family name justice. Phillippe has yet to inherit his Pernot family vines, so it will be like winning the lottery for Phillippe and his family when that day comes, and we can't wait to taste his future wines.
The 2020 is the best Bourgogne Blanc we have tasted from Pernot-Belicard to date. It is a mineral-driven beauty with notes of lemon chiffon, gunflint, minerals, and a savory component buried within. On the palate, tons of dry extract linger and are complemented by some mineral salinity. It is a terrific value as well and part of a rare group of Bourgogne Blancs that are under $30 these days.
