2020 Domaine Pinson Frères Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos

$79.99
2020 Domaine Pinson Frères Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos
One of the top premier Crus of the vintage, the 2020 Pinson Mont de Milieu is an excellent buy, especially at this pricing. We have a few more cases at low pricing for this cru, and it's one of the best efforts of the vintage from Pinson, just behind their Les Clos, which is about twice the price. This is one to stock up on because the 2021s and 2022s will be extremely limited. Big notes below by Jasper Morris and Burghound, these bottles are due to arrive next month.

The Pinson has documentation confirming the family was in Chablis in 1640. While it was much later when they started bottling under Pinson, the family would have been deeply involved in wine growing and winemaking. Louis Pinson was the pioneer of the family and, in 1880, bottled the first wines under the Pinson name. However, over 100 years later, Laurent and Christophe Pinson, grandsons of Louis, would take over after working with their grandfather and completing their winegrowing studies in Beaune. Laurent and Cristophe helped expand the Domaine and, between 1982 and 2009, went from 4 to 12 hectares of vines, also building a new, more technologically advanced winery with more room and capability. These changes dramatically increased the quality of the wines, and with the introduction of the new generation, Charlene Pinson joined the family estate after completing her viticulture-enology in Beaune. The family has been making some incredibly classic and noteworthy Chablis using sustainable techniques without chemicals, and 2020 is a very fine example with the potential to be an exceptional bottle. The Mont de Milieu is one of their top premier crus. It is a vineyard with similar exposure to the Grand Cru sites, with limestone and red clay over the region's famous Kimmeridgian soil beneath. It's one of the warmest sites in Chablis; the soil's naturally low fertility helps limit the yields, producing very concentrated wines with excellent acidity and minerality. Two great notes below, we have low pricing on some of the only 750s in the USA and the only Magnums currently available.

Jasper Morris 94-96 points! 5 Star Wine! "Bright pale lemon colour. The bouquet shows the oak a little more, having been vinified in part in barrel. Integrates very well mind you. Very complete, greater intensity, just the right acidity, and the marine tension we are looking for. Light biscuit at the back from the barrel. This is a Chablis that needs keeping but will be excellent. Bravo. Tasted: June 2021"

Burghound 91-94 points! "A cool, pure and airy nose features notes of white flowers, pear, passion fruit, quinine and a very subtle application of wood. The juicy and fleshy medium-bodied flavors are more concentrated and bigger with good minerality and powerful on the complex, long and well-balanced finale. This consistently fine wine is potentially outstanding and just in need of a few years of cellaring."
