Donnhoff is a giant in Germany, making some of our client's favorite wines in the entire country for years on end. It is one of the go-to's, and when you think German Riesling, it is easily one of the first names that come to mind. All the wines here are spectacular, and there's never been a bottle of Donnhoff that we've been disappointed with, and the Grosses Gewachs or dry wines have been the hot items over the past few vintages. 2020 is sensational, with a warm growing season and a cooler harvest perfect for the drier wines of the region. 2020 is only the fourth vintage that Donnhoff has made a GG from this site, a vineyard from which they usually source one of their Kabinett's. This is a famous vineyard in Kreuznach, noted for its southern exposure and mineral-rich soils, and is one of the sites that helped Build Donhoff's reputation. This isn't as steep of a vineyard, only reaching a 40% gradient at its steepest, with Donnhoff's vines ranging from 20-35 years old. The wines from here are powerful and elegant with excellent citrus fruit, spice, and mineral character. There is good persistence and depth on the palate with energetic acids, a long elegant finish, and in a great vintage like 2020, this is singing and one of the best examples yet. We have low pricing on some of the only bottles available in the USA, and it is not a selection to miss from Donnhoff in 2020.
James Suckling 95 points! "Shimmers with peach, citrus and flint on the nose. Excellent structure, although this isn’t demonstrative. Rather, the wine has depth and a certain playfulness through the very long and intense finish. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification. Drink or hold."
