2020 Donnhoff Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Spätlese

$39.99
2020 Donnhoff Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Spätlese
Here's our first offer for 2020 German Riesling, and we can't think of a better producer to kick it off. Donnhoff is one one the pioneers of the Nahe and has been the source of some of the most fantastic Riesling that Germany offers. The Bruke site is a monopole for Donnhoff named after a bridge (Luitpoldbrücke) that crosses the Nahe river built during the Royal Barvarian Administration. Bruke is one of Donhoff's prized sites and one that flowers early and ripens very slowly, giving the fruit lots of hang time on the vines to develop complexity. The soils here are grey slate and loam, and the vineyard is one of the smallest registered vineyards protected by law, with vines ranging from 25-45 years old. This is an excellent site for Spatlese with great acidity, minerality, and intricate fruit layers. For years, this wine has been a favorite among critics like John Gilman, who scores this in the mid-90s nearly every vintage, and though it is early, the 2020s look to be very elegant and refined with Spatlese and the drier style wines stealing the show. These are some of the first bottles to be available for this new vintage in the USA, coming in at slightly lower pricing than our offer of '19s last year. Always a great buy, the Oberhauser Bruke Spatlese is a magical wine from a magnificent producer and should be on the radar for fans of this address or German Riesling.
