2020 Francois Carillon Puligny-Montrachet

$79.99
2020 Francois Carillon Puligny-Montrachet
The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet is one of the best buys this vintage at the village level, and this year is the most remarkable example ever from Francois Carillon. We have low pricing on this one in stock, and it's one to consider this vintage, scoring about 4 points higher than the '21 version!

One of the best efforts of all time for the Puligny-Montrachet AC, 2020 is fantastic, and we have a few cases in stock at this low pricing. Francois Carillon is a great winemaker and loves giving the fruit a little extra hang time, but as a descendant of one of Burgundy's greatest winemakers, Francois Virot, who helped put Domaine Leflaive on the map, Francois uses a skillful touch to retain balance in his wines. The Brother of Jacques Carilon, Francois' wines are slightly lower priced but can be equally significant. This year, Francois has the better Puligny-Montrachet, with Jasper Morris giving Jacques version 90-92 points at about $20 more.
This Puligny-Montrachet comes from eight different vineyards throughout Puligny-Montrachet; Derrière la Velle, Reuchaux, Corvée, Levrons, Aubues, Tremblots, Noyer Bret, and Rousselle. The vines reach up to 50 years old and are mostly planted on a mix of clay and limestone. Traditionally vinified and aged in oak, 2020 is the best example of this wine we have tried. It has the textbook richness that comes with Francois wines but with incredible energy and tension, as Jasper notes below, and is honestly better than some Premier crus this vintage. A brilliant buy for white Burgundy, and we have low pricing today on a few cases in stock.

Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy) 91-94 points! "Pale primrose here, very vibrant in colour and bouquet. Complex nose with some tension, a very faint toast in a way which works, and a sense of energy to the fruit – indeed more in fruit than flowers. Swells beautifully, yet retains its characteristic restraint. Really pretty finish, a very sound bet for a village Puligny."
