We have one of the best buys of the vintage for village level Red Burgundy from Gerard Seguin. Founded in 1850, Seguin flies under the radar, and only a few of their wines make it to US shores, and what does usually stays on the East Coast. These are traditionally made wines with Burgundian integrity, a sense of place and complexity, structure, elegance, power, and minerality; textbook Burgundy. Gerard was one of the first to graft his vines to American root stalks after the phylloxera crisis, and his original plot of vines was .5 hectares of Craipillot located right in front of their property in Gevery-Chambertin. This Gevrey VV is equally old and was planted in the 1920s, with another small plot planted in the 50s. It's a small 1.48-hectare south-facing plot with very stony soil that acts as a filter in the Combe Grisard alluvial cone, joining Charmes-Chambertin at the locality called Reniard. It's a great location that produces a concentrated, powerful, yet elegant wine with a fantastic core of fruit and impressive aging potential. 2020 is sensational and the best example that has ever been made here. We have excellent pricing today on the only bottles available in the USA, and it's a tremendous deal in today's market for red Burgundy!
Decanter (Charles Curtice MW) 95 points! "A lovely surprise, with more depth and concentration than one would expect from a village-level Gevrey. A bright cherry, raspberry and blackberry fruit is elegantly scented with violets and earth on the nose. The texture is firm and tannic but not astringent at all - there is structure and depth, and a supple elegance suggesting that it should age well. The vines were planted in 1920 and partially replanted in 1950. Today they deliver a wine worthy of seeking out."
