An excellent buy for classic White Burgundy, the wines from Prudhon aren't readily imported to the US, with typically only a few cases tricking in every year. We have the only bottles available in the USA which are due to arrive later this month, and it is a fantastic buy for the category. This is a great address for old-school style wine, with 2020 being one of the best examples for the Castes Blanc. Quantity is limited, so don't miss it.
We have a fantastic buy for premier cru white burgundy today from Henri Prudhon, one of Saint Aubins leading winemakers. Henri Prudhon, born in 1921, started his estate selling wine and grape must to other winemakers before his son Gerard changed that and began bottling and selling wine, knowing without a doubt that his family estate held great potential. Now succeeded by his grandchildren Vincent and Phillipe, Henri maintains their grandfather and father's legacy by working together to make some fantastic wines. The Prudhon's take a sustainable approach in the vineyard with a minimalist hand in the cellar, showing the individual terroirs of Saint-Aubin very successfully. Les Castets is located on the hill southeast of the village of Saint-Aubin, featuring clay and limestone soils. It is a delightful wine with beautiful fruit and richness balanced by a mineral spine and excellent acids. As noted below, this is quite structured, and while it can be enjoyed now, it will do great with time in the cellar. We have low pricing on some of the only bottles available in the USA, and it's one of the best buys of the vintage for premier cru white burgundy.
Burghound 90 points! "An exuberantly fresh nose combines notes of Granny Smith apples, pear, grapefruit and a whiff of mineral reduction. The racy but slightly bigger-bodied flavors exude an appealing stoniness on the equally refreshing and sneaky long finish. This would also benefit from developing more depth and the potential aging curve is such that should reasonably happen. (Drink starting 2026)"
