2020 Kumeu River Chardonnay Estate$29.99
We have to give credit where credit is due and the Brajkovich family have been pioneers of the Chardonnay grape in New Zealand making world-class wines since the 1980s. Mick and Katé Brajkovich the parents of Michael immigrated to Zealand in the 1930s. from Croatia. By 1944 they had saved enough money to buy the first small parcel of what is now part of the Kumeau river estate. In 1957 their son Michael meet his wife Melba and had four children that now help run the estate. In 1986 their first estate Chardonnay was released, and they have been on a roll since then. Michael states that the 2019 and 2020 vintages are two of the best ever for this estate and gives a slight edge to the 2020 vintage. The Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay is drawn from six different vineyard sites in the Kumeu Region. We are particularly careful in selecting only the very best grapes from these vineyards. This wine has incredible laser beam focus and persistence with incredible depth and layers of flavors. We have been fans of these wines for years and feel for the $29.99 price point this is as good as Chardonnay gets anywhere in the world for the money. The 2020 Kumeau river wines are strictly allocated because of all the great press they have received so we only have 72 bottles of this one to sell.
James Suckling 95pts Intense and complex chardonnay with lemons and peaches, as well as pastry and fresh cream. The palate is stacked with ripe-peach flavor and fresher, citrus tones and has complex, layered texture. Classy wine. Drink now.
