As we have said before, Manni Nosing is one of the underrated stars of Alto Adige. Tucked away in the shadow of the Dolomites, Manni makes precise and pure wines that capture this northern region's essence and has always been a producer that has stayed at reasonable pricing. While we love the Kerner that Manni makes, the Grunner has always been a great wine here, with 2020 being one of the best vintages of all time for this Cuvee.
Planted in 2002 and 2015 on sandy granite, the Grunner shows beautiful orchard fruit, yellow citrus, with notes of white flowers, wild herbs, and stunning minerality. Elegant and precise, ending long and refreshing. It is an excellent alternative to the regular old-world white wines we usually drink and a fun Northern Italian look at the Gruner grape. It is gaining popularity and is a wine that can age quite nicely, building complexity in the bottle. A yearly favorite from Northern Italy, this is on par with producers like Nikolaihof and is highly recommended this vintage.
Vinous (Eric Guido) 93 pts! "The 2020 Gruner Veltliner is more savory than sweet with crushed rocks, musky pears, apricots, and hints of flint. This is round and soothing, displaying a pleasant inner sweetness and vivid ripe orchard fruits balanced by saline-mineral tones. 2020 tapers off losing and staining, yet also lightly structured, leaving hints of candied lines. There is great potential here!"
