2020 Markus Molitor Wehlener Klosterberg Pinot Blanc ***

$49.99
2020 Markus Molitor Wehlener Klosterberg Pinot Blanc ***
It has been a few years since we have offered the Pinot Blanc from Molitor. It's typically something we only offer in exceptional vintages, which is exactly what 2020 is here from Molitor. 2020 is a huge vintage for Markus Molitor, with his Pinot Blanc reaching unseen heights, and while this is not your typical varietal for Germany, Markus is one of the absolute best when it comes to working with Pinot. Wehlener Klosterberg vineyard is one of Molitors top vineyards with stunning minerality from the decomposed slate soils. This vineyard produces elegant wines, which is certainly true for the Pinot Blanc grown here. Molitor isn't afraid of getting outside his comfort zone, and when the decision was made to plant Pinot Blanc in this highly prized vineyard, every measure would have been taken to prove that this is a world-class wine and a deserving part of the Molitor lineup. A nice note from Stephan Reinhardt below: he tasted this before it was complete, and we think it will reach the higher end of his review. We have a great price on this rare wine, and if you are a fan of Markus Molitor or new to his wines, this is highly recommended.

Wine Advocate Stephan Reinhardt 96-98 points! "The 2020 Pinot Blanc Wehlener Klosterberg *** is precise and flinty on the deep, pure, intense and concentrated, for the moment wonderfully aromatic, even fruity bouquet with noble sur lie and very fine, imbedded oak aromas. Great definition here. On the palate, this is a very concentrated, rich and powerful, highly elegant and enormously salty Pinot Blanc with very fine tannins and great intensity. The acidity is ripe but also concentrated and cuts through this slightly cloudy sample like a search light through fog. The finish is very intense and long. Aged in noble Burgundy barrels for 18 months, the 2020 is going to be bottled in August this year and will need 6–10 years to become the show stopper the wine already pretends to be. Definitely a wine to pre-order. Release date: unknown. Tasted as a still-to-be-filtered sample in July 2022."
