Domaine Vissoux is as good as ever, and with the 2020s just being released, it looks to be another promising vintage for this Beaujolais veteran. Lead by Pierre-Yves Chermette, Domaine Vissoux produces some of the best values in Beaujolais. One of the highlights and most age-worthy wines that Chermette makes is the Moulin-a-Vent Les Trois Roches, and while the Fleurie Cuvees are very pretty, the Moulin-a-Vent shows even more weightless depth and power. Sourced from three plots that bring different aspects to the wine: Rochegrès gives finesse, Roche Noire energy, and fruit, and La Rochelle contributes to the power. It's a wine that has the structure to be kept for up to ten years. John Gilman states in his note below that the Les Trois Roches is his favorite Beaujolais of the vintage, which is a big statement considering the number of great wines coming from the region and the price point of the Cuvee. Even though it is early, the Les Trois Roches is likely to be one of the best buys of the vintage. We have low pricing on some of the only bottles available right now, and it is not a bottle to miss!
John Gilman 94 points! "The les Trois Roches cuvée from Jean-Étienne and Pierre-Marie Chermette is one of my absolute favorite Cru bottlings in all of Beaujolais and the 2020 is another classic in the making. The wine is beautifully refined aromatically, offering up scents of cassis, sweet dark berries, a touch of pomegranate, espresso, a fine base of dark soil, gamebird, sweet stem tones, just a hint of thyme and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and tangy, with lovely intensity of flavor, great transparency and grip, ripe tannins and impeccable balance on the long, complex and focused finish. This is tightly-knit and seamless out of the blocks and really deserves some cellaring before pulling corks, as there is greatness here just waiting to spring! 2026-2060."
Wine Advocate (William Kelley) 93 points! "Opening in the glass with notes of sweet wild berries, petals, warm spices and loamy soil, the 2020 Moulin-à-Vent Les Trois Roches is medium to full-bodied, lively and nicely concentrated, with powdery tannins and a mouthwatering finish."
