An excellent and rare value from one of our favorite small addresses in Cornas, this is the first vintage the domaine has made a Syrah VDF bottling. A superb value made for earlier drinking but still shows a bit of that Verset classicism, this is a very rare and limited wine that is not being widely exported out of Europe. We have the only bottles of this new cuvee available in the USA, and it's a no-brainer for fans of Syrah looking for a great value.
One of our favorite addresses in Cornas, we are offering a new cuvee from Verset today, the Syrah VDF. 2021 was the first vintage made of this wine, and naturally, this is our first offer. We have been keen on these wines for over a decade, and Alain Verset, a nephew of the legendary Noel Verset, continues to be one of the most undervalued producers in this famous appellation. Verset's Cornas has been the best buy in the appellation for many years, and with Alain's daughter Emmanuelle taking the lead in 2016, the wines have gotten even better. Emmanuelle has created two new cuvees, the Syrah, and the Signature Verset, to diversify her portfolio and increase quality. The production here has been very small, at about 500 cases a year, so it makes sense that they would try to add more to the Domaine. While we are not sure if Verset recently purchased these vines or if they are using some of the younger vines they already own to improve the quality of their flagship Cornas bottlings, we do know the fruit is from the lower valley of Cornas. This has the potential to be a baby Cornas, but the focus here will surely be the freshness and vibrancy of fruit, which should make for some delicious drinking. A fantastic value for the Northern Rhone and old-world wine in general, we have some of the only bottles available in the world right now, and it is a no-brainer at this pricing.
