Our last bottles in stock of this great effort from Huet. The dry wines here are some of the best in Vouvray, and 2021 is a knock-out vintage for Le Mont as one of the greatest examples ever from Huet—excellent ripeness of fruit this vintage with the textbook acidity that comes from this site; this is a sensational Vouvray and highly recommended at this friendly pricing.
The Sec wines from Huet are some of our favorites, and because the Domaine makes the wines that best suit the vintage, this dry style is not always made. However, in 2021, Huet deemed the Le Mont as suitable for the Sec style and is a brilliant vintage for this excellent Cuvee. 2021 was a challenging vintage and considered one of the most difficult in the last ten years. Spring frosts and mildew caused a small crop, but the overall quality was better than expected, especially from the top producers, and it is a classic, fresh vintage for Huet.
Le Mont is a great site that Huet has worked with since 1957. Its stony soils with unique green clay bring freshness and minerality to the wine. Le Mont typically has excellent acidity and purity as one of the most age-worthy wines from Huet, although it can be approached early, especially this vintage. We have a bit of this remaining, and with the huge score from Vinous, this is defiantly on par with the 2020s and is a bottle to miss for Huet fans or anyone who likes tightly knit, racy, and mineral-driven wines.
Vinous (Rebecca Gibb) 96 points! "Le Mont Sec fills the mouth with pear, pineapple, nectarine and violet flavors. There's a sense of seduction and succulence through the middle of this wine. The flint and the coolness of the site seem to bring a sense of tension and purpose through this wine, which seduces you then spits you out. Delightful fragrance and a mouthwatering, racy finish."
