This is one of the best examples of Gigondas I have tasted for the money. Most of the wines from Gigonadas, especially over the last three vintages, have been massive and almost port-like. This is a breath of fresh air and is a Burgundy lovers dream from southern Rhone, with 2021 being a cooler classic vintage. The blend is 70% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, and 10% Cinsault is grown in three vineyard sites that get blended together. The lower-level sites come from iron-rich soil, while the higher-elevation sites comprise mainly limestone and quartz. The wine is brought up in neutral concrete and large oak casks so as not to mark the wine with a heavy oak influence. The fruit here is beautiful and beguiling with lovely raspberry-laden notes, a touch of garrigue, animal fur, and spice. The wine has tremendous cut and clarity, and it's fantastic at this pricing. We have low pricing today on this excellent Gigondas, and it comes highly recommended.
