2021 Dönnhoff Kreuznacher Krötenpfuhl Riesling Kabinett

$26.99
2021 Dönnhoff Kreuznacher Krötenpfuhl Riesling Kabinett
One of Nahe's most decorated Producers, Donnhoff has been the source of some of Germany's most impressive Riesling's. These are some of our client's favorite wines in Germany, and those who don't follow this region closely have heard the name Donnhoff before. The dry wines here have gained much popularity over the past five vintages, and while this isn't GG dry, it is on the drier side of the sweetness spectrum. Krötenpfuhl is a famous vineyard in Kreuznach, noted for its southern exposure and mineral-rich soils; it is one of the sites that helped Build Donhoff's reputation. This isn't as steep as a vineyard by German standards, only reaching a 40% gradient at its steepest, with vines ranging from 20 to 35 years old. The wines from here are powerful and elegant, with excellent citrus fruit, spice, and mineral character. There is good persistence and depth on the palate with energetic acids and a long elegant finish.
As we have mentioned, 2021 is considered a return to classicism, though the growing season wasn't without challenges and required tons of work in the vineyard. A cold winter, a warm, humid summer, and lots of rain at the beginning of fall were just some of the challenges that needed to be faced. However, Donnhoff was pleased with the outcome calling it a classic vintage, and after the extensive work they put in, the results were worth the effort. Donnhoff explained that the wines in this vintage are delicate and intricate yet carry an incredible density with excellent, elegant acidity and a sleek mineral character.
