2021 Raen Winery Pinot Noir Royal St. Robert

$69.99
2021 Raen Winery Pinot Noir Royal St. Robert
After establishing Continuum with their father, Tim Mondavi, Carlo & Dante decided to venture out independently and established Raen winery in 2013. The philosophy here was to make classic cool-climate Pinot Noir which they have accomplished in spades making some of the best Pinot Noir from Sonoma Coast. Their Royal St Robert Pinot Noir has been one of the standouts the past few vintages and is incredible once again. The Pinot Noir clones they work with are Calera, Pommard, 828, rVR1, and 667 clones, and all the vineyards are organically farmed. The ferments are done with native yeasts and saw 100% of whole cluster fermentation. The wine is aged in neutral French oak and comes in at 13% alcohol.
The 2021 vintage is a small but very classic vintage for Sonoma, and the 2021 Raen Winery Pinot Noir Royal St. Robert is an exemplary effort. Aromatically about as profound an effort as you will find in the new world with gorgeous red fruits, baking spices, garrigue, red flowers, and liquid minerals. The palate has incredible energy, lovely depth, and a lingering finish with lots of dry extracts. This is the best rendition of this wine we have stated to date, and it should be better in a few years and last for a decade or more.

James Suckling 97-98 pts! "Extremely spicy with iron, forest flower, black tea, and dried strawberry aromas, following through to a medium to full body, with lovely velvety tannins that are integrated and refined, with a long and flavorful finish. Yet it always remains refined and poised in an exemplary way. Needs three or four years still to show its true self. Drink or hold.
