2021 Stéphane Ogier St. Joseph Le Passage

$22.99
2021 Stéphane Ogier St. Joseph Le Passage

With his new facility in full swing, the ogier wines have never been better. Stephane continues to refine and get the most out of these vineyards, and even after six generations of family winemaking, Stephane is still focused on elevating the family name. Across the board, the wines from Ogier are remarkable, with each Cuvee expressing a unique terroir; while Cote-Rotie will always be the mainstay of Ogier, there are some hidden treasures in the lineup, like the St. Joseph Le Passage. Sourced from the slightly cooler northern St. Joseph villages of Malleval, Limony, and Saint-Pierre de Boeu, from 30-year-old Syrah vines planted on Granite, 2021 is a lovely vintage, showing the mastery of Ogier at any level and his ability to create magnificent terroir-centric wines at any price point. The 2020 Le Passage is outstanding, with excellent purity of fruit and a touch of spice and minerals. It's so classically St. Joseph yet Ogier simultaneously, with fantastic energy and harmony. It's an excellent example and one of the best buys for St. Joseph, especially at this special low pricing!

James Suckling 92 points! "A northern St.-Joseph from the limit of the Condrieu appellation delivering notes of wild berries, currants, sweet spices and violets. It’s medium-bodied with silky tannins. Crunchy berry character on the palate with crisp acidity and a transparent, mineral finish with a peppery note. Drink or hold."

Jeb Dunnuck 91 points! "Also beautiful, the 2021 Saint Joseph Le Passage has classic darker berry fruits, game, violets, and some subtle tapenade notes in a medium-bodied, balanced, seamless style. It's beautifully done and just about impossible to resist."
