The 2021 Tan Fruit wines have received massive scores from Wine Advocate making the Cuvee Tan Fruit one of the highest-rated Oregon chardonnay for the money of all time. A new project started by Jim Maresh of Arterberry Maresh in 2019 focusing on making incredible Chardonnays that don't exactly follow the same rigid rules for Arteberry proper. This is the second vintage for Tan Fruit, as there were no 2020s made. The idea behind this estate is that Jim has access to a lot of exciting fruit that he can purchase, and bottling it under the Tan Fruit label truly gives him the freedom to express his creative side while still retaining that classicism and sense of place that we expect from Jim and is responsible for actively elevating these wines to the world-class level. Jim is making some of the best Chardonnays in all of Oregon, and today we have the Cuvee Tan Fruit, which we have never offered before and comes mainly fruit sourced from the Maresh vineyard, which was planted in 1991 as well as a few other vineyards. This is a fantastic example of an Oregon Chardonnay and an incredible wine from one of Oregon's best winemakers.
Wine Advocate (Erin Brooks) 97 points! "The 2021 Chardonnay Cuvée Tan Fruit comes from Dijon vines in the Maresh Vineyard, planted on a south-facing slope in 1991, plus a number of other sources around Willamette Valley. Bottled a few months earlier than the other Tan Fruit Chardonnays, its savory aromas explode from the glass: a core of peachy fruit is streaked with touches of candle smoke, matchstick, pie crust and floral tones. Medium-bodied, seamless and satiny, it flows effortlessly through the mouth with both depth of flavor and freshness. It has a pleasing touch of grip to anchor the long finish and feels like it has more to give as it unwinds in bottle over the next several years. Around 1,000 cases were made."
