We first met Desaunay-Bissey with the 1999 vintage, and the wines have impressed us ever since for their old-school character, depth, and remarkable value. The domaine’s parcel in Les Beaux Monts comes from vines more than 80 years old, giving the wine the natural concentration and complexity expected from one of Vosne’s great Premier Cru sites. Bruno works with indigenous yeasts, restrained extraction, and roughly one-third new oak, bottling the wines unfined and unfiltered to preserve as much vineyard character as possible. Stylistically, these wines are very close to Bruno Clavelier, another great old-vine Vosne specialist: both emphasize perfume, transparency, fine tannins and terroir rather than heavy extraction or excessive oak. The 2022 vintage is especially seductive here, combining ripe black and red cherry, violet and exotic Vosne spice with a broad, silky texture, fine mineral tannins and excellent freshness. There is real power beneath the surface, but the wine remains elegant and beautifully proportioned, exactly what we look for from Beaux Monts. With wines of this quality from more famous Vosne domaines now commanding dramatically higher prices, Desaunay-Bissey remains one of the smartest ways to buy serious Premier Cru Burgundy.

https://www.envoyerfinewines.com/products/2022-bruno-desaunay-bissey-vosne-romanee-1er-cru-les-beaux-monts-vieilles-vignes
