2022 Coudert Fleurie Clos de la Roilette Cuvée Tardive

$26.99
2022 Coudert Fleurie Clos de la Roilette Cuvée Tardive

These are the last bottles we have to offer of the 2022 Cuvee Tardive, and it's the best buy of the vintage for 2022 Beaujolais. Clos Roilette remains one of the great values of Beaujolais, and it just received some huge scores from John Gilman and the Wine Advocate. The Coudert wines are exceptional values yet serious contenders on par with some of the best Beaujolais has to offer, yet prices have remained very low and stable over the years, which makes this wine an absolute steal! The Cuvee Tardive is the top selection of this estate and is sourced from a vineyard in Fleurie that borders Moulin-a-Vent. It produces a unique terroir composition for very expressive wines. Unlike the standard Clos de la Roilette bottling, the Cuvee Tardive sees the estate's oldest vines, averaging 80+ years old and giving it that extra edge of depth and structure. This is a Beaujolais to be enjoyed later, which is why it is called tardive (not because it is from late-harvested fruit), with the potential to age for years. The Cuvee Tardive has been the best buy in Beaujolais for years, and we are excited about this 2022 offering, which is looking to be one of the best ever from this estate. Don't miss it!

John Gilman 95+ The 2022 Fleurie “Cuvée Tardive” from Alain Coudert is equally deep and sappy as the Clos de la Roilette regular bottling, but not quite as expressive aromatically right out of the blocks. The bouquet offers up scents of black plums, black cherries, a hint of pomegranate, bitter chocolate, dark soil tones, fresh thyme, woodsmoke, pigeon, beautifully discreet spice tones and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with great focus and grip, lovely mineral drive on the backend, ripe, buried tannins and a long, nascently complex, seamlessly balanced and still fairly tight-knit finish. This will be very long-lived and it will be a crime to open a bottle until the wine is at least seven or eight years of age. Its true apogee is probably fifteen years down the road! (Drink between 2030 - 2075)

Wine Advocate (Kenn Wells) 93+ The 2022 Fleurie Cuvée Tardive, produced from vines averaging 80 years old, masterfully pushes the boundaries of concentration. Offering up opulent aromas of grilled blackberries and cherries mingled with licorice, cloves, white pepper, orange rind, vine smoke, struck flint and forest floor, it's medium to full-bodied and appropriately structured with abundant powdery tannins playing a critical role in bolstering the fleshy structure for a long life. The lengthy finish sees the wine's textural and mineral elements meld, guiding it to a gentle, leisurely resolve.
