This is the last call for Christian Moreau's top wine of the vintage at this fantastic low pricing. The wines of Christian Moreau can be a challenge to acquire at reasonable prices, but we are able to make it happen again on this high-scoring Grand Cru. For six generations, this family has been curating the vines and making wine in Chablis and owns 12 hectares of Grand Cru Chablis, which makes up the core of their production. Moreau seeks to make wines that fully display the high-quality fruit and expression of these great vineyards, and as a result, these are incredibly pure and complex wines that show the fantastic interplay of power and elegance that Grand Cru Burgundy should have. While many producers have piecemeal holdings, the Moreau's have one continuous 3-hectare plot of Les Clos split into three parcels, which stretches from the bottom of the hill to the top, covering all the exposures and aspects, giving a complete expression in the final product. The three parcels (bottom, middle, and top) are vinified separately but blended together to make the final cuvee with vines averaging 60 years old. The Clos this vintage is outstanding and is just as good as the Clos des Hospices dans Les Clos bottling, which is uncommon. It's one of the top Clos that Christian Moreau has released and another classic example with massive potential that should be incredible with ample cellar time. We have low pricing here, and it's easily the best buy of the vintage for Les Clos.
Jasper Morris 93-97 pts! 60/40 tank/barrel, not assembled yet. A fine bright mid lemon yellow. A nobility of white fruit across the nose, with considerable intensity on the palate, more trenchant acidity perhaps, fairly full bodied and a long gracious finish. By the time this is bottled in January it should be a very fine wine. The aftertaste is already extremely promising. Drink from 2030-2045. Tasted: June 2023.
Vinous 94-96 pts! The 2022 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru has a beautifully defined bouquet with yellow plum, wet stone, hints of baked bread and pressed white flowers. Very good intensity. The palate is well-balanced with fine delineation, very good salinity and tension with superb precision towards the finish. This Les Clos doesn't want the Valmur to get all the acclaim. (Drink between 2026 - 2046)
Burghound 92-95 pts! Moderate wood is present on the overtly floral-suffused nose of mostly white fleshed fruit, especially pear and apple, along with notes of citrus confit, acacia and oyster shell whiffs. There is excellent richness and concentration to the markedly powerful larger-scaled flavors that coat the palate on the overtly stony, dry and compact finale. At least moderate patience will be required as this is pretty tightly wound. (Drink starting 2032)
