While we tend to stick to the Sec wines from Huet, the 2022 Le Mont Demi-Sec is just too good to pass up and is one of the best examples of this sweeter style made with the Le Mont vineyard. Huet, based in Vouvray, produced some of the best wines they have ever made with a fantastic set of sweet wines this vintage.
Le Mont, situated in the heart of Vouvray within the Loire Valley, stands as a testament to the unparalleled terroir that defines this storied wine region. Le Mont's vineyards are particularly celebrated for yielding some of the world's most exquisite Chenin Blanc wines. The unique combination of its soil, rich in green clay and silex (flint), along with the meticulous biodynamic farming practices employed by Huet, contribute to the creation of wines that are lauded for their exceptional balance, depth, and minerality. The influence of the microclimate adds an additional layer of complexity, producing Chenin Blanc wines that range from dry and crisp to lusciously sweet, all while maintaining a remarkable capacity for aging. Huet's Le Mont vineyard is a shining example of how terroir and human passion can come together to produce wines that are not only reflective of their environment but also stand as works of art in their own right. The 2022 vintage for Chenin Blanc in the Loire Valley is marked by its exceptional quality, attributed to the unique climatic conditions of the year. The region experienced a balanced mix of warm sunny days and cool nights during the crucial ripening period, which is ideal for the development of the complex aromatics and bright acidity that Chenin Blanc is renowned for. This weather pattern allowed winemakers to harvest grapes at optimal ripeness, resulting in wines that promise to showcase the varietal's characteristic versatility, ranging from vibrant and fresh to rich and complex. 2022 has massive potential to be one of the best vintages in the Loire, and the 2022 Le Mont is an outstanding effort that shows a bit more ripeness and tension in this vintage, making it one of the best of all time.
Vinous (Rebbecca Gibb) 95 points! "The 2022 Le Mont Demi-Sec is less fruity and charming than, say, Clos du Bourg; its tension and line come from its flinty terroir. Despite its 21g/L residual sugar, it retains a sense of tautness without being totally linear. Radish and pear notes linger on the long finish. This is grown-up demi-sec. (Drink between 2024-2038)"
John Gilman 94 points! "The 2022 Vouvray “le Mont” Demi-Sec from Domaine Huët is another stellar young wine. It is just a touch riper than the le Haut Lieu version, coming in at 13.5 percent octane this year. The wine offers up a beautiful young bouquet of sweet quince, pear, honeycomb, a gorgeous base of limestone minerality, gently musky floral tones and a touch of lanolin in the upper register. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and shows off superb depth at the core, with fine mineral drive and cut, a lovely spine of acidity, excellent balance and a long, complex and very, very promising finish. Today, this does not share the ethereal lift and beauty of the 2022 le Haut Lieu Demi-Sec, but that quality may just be buried behind the beautiful veneer of ripe fruit today. (Drink between 2023-2085)"
