2022 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux Vieilles Vignes

$44.99
2022 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux Vieilles Vignes
This is our first offer of the 2022 Butteaux VV from Louis Michel. The Buttreaux VV comes from 70-year-old vines that are naturally low-yielding, giving the VV bottling more concentration and complexity than the regular bottling of Louis Michel's Butteaux. The Butteaux VV is an excellent premier cru showing the richness that the vineyard is known for but so balanced and deep from the old vines, with serious minerality. There is no oak here, just stainless steel, making this a very pure vineyard-driven Chablis.
This is always great, and 2022 is a fantastic vintage that will rival some of the best of all time. While it was a warmer vintage, the yields were in check, and the overall health of the fruit this year was exceptional, leading to wines with good concentration, freshness, and balance of acidity. We have low pricing today on this excellent premier cru from Louis Michel, and it is not one to miss for fans of this address or those looking for one of the best 1er Cru Chablis buys.

Decanter 94 points! "Restrained and with notable concentration, this is an intense premier cru with great potential. Notes of peach fruit cut with zesty lime citrus. Very fine. From 68-year-old vines on very dense, white clay soils which are like concrete when dry, heavy when wet. (Drink between 2025-2032)"

Vinous (Neil Martin) 92-94 points! "The 2022 Chablis Butteaux Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru comes from vines around 70 years old, only slightly older than the regular cuvée, but on different soils (white clay rather than brown with high fossil content). It is usually bottled slightly later. The nose is a little more expressive with hints of red cherries and peach skin - very well defined. The palate is well-balanced with more harmony than the regular cuvée, a crisp line of acidity and touches of oyster shell on the saline finish. Great persistence here. Excellent."

Burghound 90-93 points! "This is similar to the regular cuvée except that it seems ever-so-slightly riper. By contrast, there is better concentration and power to the medium-bodied flavors and, somewhat unusually, the mouthfeel is finer as well, particularly on the more complex if also more austere finale. Lovely. (Drink starting 2028)"
