We have a late release of Clos de la Maltroie from Michel Neillon today at this great price. Michel is the head of this classic address and is a master winemaker with over 50 vintages under his belt. He is assisted by his son-in-law and grandson, who works at this small, classic family domain in Chassagne-Montrachet. Farming is done as sustainably as possible with lutte raisonee practices, and in the Niellon signature style, they like to pick early to show off the freshness and acidity rather than a gourmand richness, preferring elegance over everything else and are usually the first to start harvesting in the village. The Clos de la Maltroie comes from a small parcel of vines that were planted in 1977 on textbook limestone and clay soils. It's a vibrant high acid example of Chassange focusing on mineral nuance and is a great example of the 2022 vintage from Niellon. We have a limited amount, and at no upcharge over previous vintages, it's a great buy!
Vinous (Neil Martin) 93 points! "The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Clos de la Maltroie 1er Cru is actually more backward on the nose compared to the Village Cru, tightly coiled with mineral-driven, malic fruit. The palate is well balanced with neatly integrated oak on the entry. Fresh and saline, there’s ample grip toward the finish, with just a touch of grilled walnut and fine length. Excellent. Tasted at merchants' 2022 Burgundy tastings in London. (Drink between 2027-2040)"
